Cyber crime isn't going away anytime soon. That's what the Chief of the FBI's computer intrusion section told The Wall Street Journal's Business Technology Blog in a recent interview. He says companies should assume that they will be hacked.

New and Improved Cyber Security Threats

The problem, says the FBI, is so widespread that it goes beyond the scope of current criminal justice. Cyber security is no longer vulnerable solely to ordinary techies vying for prestige. Today's hackers are in it for the money, and they're really good at it.

Contemporary hackers target specific companies and even individual employees. They typically steal credit card, bank account, and social security information and then sell those findings. Some hackers are even believed to be part of organized-crime gangs.

Companies May Complicate Matters

Companies may be complicating the current efforts of criminal justice. Cyber security incidents, says a recent survey, are only reported to law enforcement by 29% of companies who experience these threats. Most are probably afraid of bad press if the incident leaks out to the media.
